Box Score St. Paul, MN. -- The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team went on the road to Minnesota and came away with a 1-0 win against St. Catherine thanks to a world-class goal from
Hannah Hong on Friday afternoon.
Â
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 3-0 to start the year.
Â
Pomona-Pitzer was led by Hong who scored the only goal of the game for the Sagehens in the win. On the other side of the field,
Patricia DePalma found herself making her collegiate debut in goal and turned out an incredible performance with five saves for the first win of her Sagehen career.
Â
The Sagehens controlled possession for the most part in the first half but did not have a ton of scoring opportunities against the Wildcats. Â Â The bigger threat to score was by St. Catherine who had a few good chances in front of goal, but DePalma came away with some huge first-half saves to keep the Sagehens even at 0-0 heading into halftime.
Â
Each team had a big chance to take the lead early in the second half as
Isla Burch had a shot just wide off of a cross and St. Catherine came back with a point-blank header that was saved again by DePalma as the two teams stayed scoreless.Â
Â
The moment of the match for the Sagehens' offense came in the 73
rd minute as
Amanda Khu found Hong darting down the left wing.  Hong took a few touches and hit an absolute screamer from way outside of the box and into the side netting to give the Sagehens a 1-0 lead.
Â
After taking the lead and creating a little bit of breathing room, the Sagehens controlled the game from that point on and were able to hold off the St. Catherine attack to hang on for the road win.
