Box Score REDLANDS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team fell to SCIAC opponent Redlands 75-54 on Saturday night at Currier Gymnasium.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 6-13 overall and 4-8 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by Madison Quan who had 24 points and six steals in the loss. Emily Lee tallied 13 points, while Kaitlyn Leung added 10. The Sagehens shot 34.3% from the field and 21.7% from three but the Bulldogs controlled the boards as they outrebounded the Sagehens 41-21 and had 32 points off of 17 Sagehen turnovers.
The Sagehens had a very good first quarter after they outscored Redlands 19-17 in the first 10 minutes of play. Redlands got out to an early 7-3 lead, but the Sagehens made a run and took their first lead of the night at 17-15 after a layup by Lee with 3:15 left in the first. Katie Drais added another layup to make it 19-15, but the Bulldogs scored the final basket of the first quarter to cut the lead down to 19-17.
The second quarter hurt the Sagehens badly as they were only able to add five points to their total while Redlands went on to add 20 more to their total. The Sagehens kept their lead after a Lee three made it 24-23, but Redlands ended the half with a 14-0 run to take a 37-24 lead into halftime.
The Sagehen offense got back to form in the third quarter, but the Redlands offense continued to score the ball against the Sagehen defense. Pomona-Pitzer scored 17 points in the third quarter led by Quan who scored 10 of them, but the Bulldogs added 20 points for the second consecutive quarter to extend their lead to 57-41 entering the fourth.
Pomona-Pitzer didn't go out without a fight after they scored the first six points of the fourth to make it a 10-point game at 57-47. The Sagehens continued to chip away as Church converted a layup to bring them within eight points at 59-51, but unfortunately, that was as close as they got as Redlands regrouped on offense and pulled away late in the game to hand the Sagehens the loss on the road.
