Box Score

CLAREMONT, CA. --  Madison Quan set the single-game steals record as well tied the career three-point record in the Sagehens' 86-42 win over Caltech on Wednesday night at Voelkel Gymnasium.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 8-14 overall and 6-9 in SCIAC play.

Coming off of her 41-point school record, Quan had an equally impressive night after she tallied 36 points and set a single-game record with 10 steals. It's the first time any Sagehen has had a double-double with steals and added seven assists and six rebounds. Katie Drais added 12 points off the bench while Kellie Au had 11 points in the win. Quan also added four threes and now tied the career three-point record with current Head Coach Alaina Woo.

The Sagehens have been on fire on the offensive side of the floor and tallied 86 points which is their second-highest total of the season after their 88-point win in their last game over La Verne. Pomona-Pitzer shot 55% from the field and 46.4% from three.  The Sagehens outrebounded Caltech 37-21, forced 22 turnovers, and scored 31 points off of turnovers.

Quan and the Sagehens owned the first half against Caltech with 26 points in the first half by Quan alone.  The Beavers stayed with the Sagehens early with Pomona-Pitzer up 13-7 midway through the first, but the Sagehens started to pull away late in the first quarter and ended with a 19-11 lead. The Sagehens quickly took a 10-point lead with a Quan jumper and continued to extend their lead throughout the second quarter.  The Sagehen defense played a huge role in the big lead after they held the Beavers to just eight points in the second while the offense put up 30 in the second quarter.  Pomona-Pitzer doubled Caltech's points with a 30-15 lead and Drais nailed a three just before halftime to put the Sagehens up 49-19 at halftime.

Pomona-Pitzer continued to extend their lead in the third after the defense held the beavers to eight points for the second consecutive quarter. The Sagehens scored 20 points in the third as Quan added seven more to her total with Pomona-Pitzer up big at 69-27 heading into the fourth.

The Sagehens took their feet off of the gas in the fourth with just 17 points but still managed to outscore Caltech 17-15. The Sagehens went on to take their largest lead over any opponent this season at 45 points with an 82-37 lead as Quan continued to search for her record-breaking three.  Quan thought she had it with second remaining, but a foul was called on the floor before her three could fall leaving her one three shy of the record with one game to play.

Up Next: The Sagehens will next host Cal Lutheran for their senior night on Saturday, February 18th at 5:00 p.m.
