ORANGE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team finished off their 2023 season with a 2-2 draw against SCIAC opponent Chapman on Saturday night at Wilson Field.
Season Impact: With the draw, the Sagehens end the season at 4-6-6 overall and 3-4-5 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens had two goal scorers in the draw in
Niclas Ulrich and
Keyon Namdar while
Brendan Kish assisted on the Namdar goal.
Chapman outshot the Sagehens 18-11 with six on goal to the Sagehens' four with each team getting a goal in each half. Chapman won five corners with Pomona-Pitzer earning two.
While both teams shot out of the gate and tried to get an early lead in the final regular season game of the year, it was the Panthers who struck first after they headed in a ball off of a deep throw-in to take a 1-0 lead at home in the 11
th minute.
Pomona-Pitzer responded eight minutes later after
Kyle Lau drew a penalty from the Chapman goalkeeper to set up a big opportunity to equalize for the Sagehens. Ulrich took the ball to the spot and converted the PK to tie the game at 1-1 heading into halftime.
Pomona-Pitzer went on to take the lead in the second half after a quick drop ball was played to the feet of Kish down the right side who played a nice through ball to Namdar to set up a one-on-one with the keeper. Namdar took advantage of his scoring opportunity and slotted a ball into the lower end of the goal to put the Sagehens up 2-1 in the 57
th minute.
The Sagehens held the lead for about 10 minutes, but the Panthers came back with a goal of their own after a handball gave them a penalty kick chance that was converted to even the game at 2-2 in the 68
th minute.
Both teams tried to find a winner late in the game, but the Panthers and Sagehens ended their regular season with a draw.
