Sagehens Earn A Pair Of Wins Over La Verne And Concordia At Haldeman Pool

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Water Polo team came away with a pair of wins with a 14-10 win over La Verne and an 11-10 win over Concordia-Irvine on Saturday afternoon at Haldeman Pool.
 
Season Impact: with the wins, the Sagehens improve to 10-14 overall and 5-1 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens were led by Chase Barman who scored a game-high four goals in the win. Miles Chiang, Kyle Green, and Nico Perna had multi-goal games with two each while Jacob Whiting, Indigo Lee, Zach Whitfield, and Jack Ryan had one apiece as well.
 
The Sagehens got off to a great start on offense with five goals in the first quarter while the defense shut out the Leopards to open the game. Barman earned his hat-trick early in the first with goals from Chiang and Green to get the Sagehens their 5-0 lead.
 
Pomona-Pitzer got the lead to 6-0 with a goal from Whitfield to open the second quarter before La Verne earned their first goal off of a breakaway to make it 6-1. Perna, Barman, and Chiang extended the lead before La Verne hit back-to-back goals to make the lead 9-3. Green netted the final goal of the half for the Sagehens as Pomona-Pitzer went into the break with a commanding 10-3 lead.
 
Perna opened the scoring for the Sagehens early in the third quarter as the Leopards and Sagehens alternated goals to open the second half. Whiting and Ryan also got on the board in the third quarter to give the Sagehens a 13-6 lead heading into the fourth.
 
La Verne made it a closer final score than the game after they outscored the Sagehens 4-1 in the fourth quarter after the Sagehens already built a big lead. Lee was the lone Sagehen scorer in the fourth as Pomona-Pitzer started their doubleheader Saturday with a SCIAC win.

The Sagehens were led by Green who netted four goals in the win. Whitfield netted two for the Sagehens while Maxim Koretsky, Perna, Indigo Lee, Barman and Conrad Hugar all had one goal In the win.
 
Both teams had a big start to the game with five goals each in the first quarter. Concordia scored the first goal of the game but the Sagehens netted back-to-back goals from Green and Whitfield to take a 2-1 lead. The Sagehens stayed on top as Lee and Koretsky netted goal to take a 4-2 lead and Greens scored his second at the end of the first with the teams tied at 5-5 heading into the second.
 
The Eagles took the lead in the second after they outscored the Sagehens 2-1 before halftime as Whitfield kept the Sagehens in the game down one at the break.
Perna got the Sagehens back even at 7-7 with 5:26 left in the third quarter but Concordia took a one-goal lead at 8-7 to start the fourth.
 
The Sagehens tied the game early in the fourth with a goal from Hugar and after a Concordia goal, Barman tied the game at 10-10 with 2:22 left in the fourth.  The Sagehens came all the way back and scored the game-winner as Green got the ball just after exclusion and beat the keeper to put the Sagehens up 11-10.
 
Concordia had a chance to tie at the end of the fourth, but the Sagehen defense fended off the attack as they held on for the win.
