Box Score CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team fell to SCIAC opponent Redlands 79-65 on Saturday afternoon at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens fall to 4-8 overall and 2-4 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by Madison Quan who posted a season-high 27 points in the loss. The Sagehens had two other players in double-digit scoring as Emily Lee had 12 and Maison Yee came off the bench for 12 as well.
The Sagehens shot 31.5% from the field and just 24.1% from three and were outrebounded 59-25 against the much larger lineup of Redlands. The Sagehens did manage to force 22 turnovers, which they converted into 18 points but lost the battle in the paint as well 28-24.
Redlands came out on fire to start the first quarter and jumped out to an 11-0 run capped off by a three-pointer that forced the Sagehens to take a timeout with 7:25 left in the first. Redlands got the early lead up to 13-0 before the Sagehens got their first points of the day and found themselves in a big hole early on. The Sagehens started to get their offense going as Redlands cooled off and Pomona-Pitzer sparked a 12-2 run to get back within striking distance at 20-16. The Bulldogs got some big shots to fall late in the first and took a 28-20 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
Redlands started out the second quarter extending their lead to 34-20 and maintained their double-digit lead throughout the second quarter. Maison Yee and Emily Lee led the Sagehens with 9 and 8 points, respectively at the break, but Pomona-Pitzer trailed Redlands 47-32 heading into halftime.
Both teams put up similar numbers in the third quarter as Redlands duplicated their total from the second with 19 and the Sagehens just under them with 17. The Bulldogs did damage coming out of halftime and took a 16-point lead and carried that to the end of the third up 66-49.
The Sagehens fought back in the fourth after they outscored Redlands for the only quarter of the game 16-13. Redlands took their largest lead of the game at 25 points with a 76-51 lead, but the Sagehens finished the game on a bright note outscoring Redlands 14-3 but ultimately fell for their fourth conference loss of the season.
