Sagehens Complete Comeback Over Chapman With 66-62 OT Victory

ORANGE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball came away with a 66-62 overtime win over SCIAC foe Chapman on Wednesday night at the Hutton Sports Center.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 4-7 overall and 2-3 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens were led by Maison Yee who scored a team-high 15 points off of the bench while Emily Church netted 13 and Madison Quan and Emily Lee added 12 to the win.

Pomona-Pitzer had a big night from three after they drained 40.9% of their shots from beyond the arc. The Sagehen defense kept Chapman under 40% from the field and 27% from three while forcing the Panthers to turn the ball over 21 times. 

Chapman had a quick start in the first quarter after they jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the game's first five minutes. The Sagehens chipped away at the lead and tied it at 9-9 after an Emily Lee three and Emily Church hit a layup to end the quarter with the two teams tied at 11-11.

The Panthers owned the second quarter after they outscored the Sagehens 18-10. The Panthers built a gradual lead throughout the second quarter but took off late in the first half to lead 29-21 over Pomona-Pitzer at halftime. 

Pomona-Pitzer quickly made up ground in the third quarter and cut the deficit down to 32-30 after a Quan jumper with three minutes gone in the third. The Sagehens went on to take the lead after a Kaitlyn Leung three made it 36-34, but Chapman ended the third on a 12-1 run to hold a 46-37 advantage over the Sagehens entering the fourth. 

Chapman led by as much as 15 points with 6:30 to play in the fourth, but the Sagehens were able to mount a huge comeback led by Yee and Church to cut it down to 54-50 with just under two minutes to play. Pomona-Pitzer got the deficit down to three points and Emily Lee nailed a huge three-pointer to tie the game at 57-57 to send it to overtime.

Pomona-Pitzer's defense stepped up in overtime to limit Chapman to just 5 points while the Sagehens hit on 9-12 free throws in the overtime period to complete the comeback on the road over Chapman.
