Box Score SALEM, OR. – The Pomona-Pitzer Football team opened 2022 with a big 44-21 win over non-conference opponent Willamette on Saturday morning at McCulloch Stadium.
The Sagehens were led by Skylar Noble who went 15-18 in the air and threw for 212 yards with two touchdowns. Noble also led the rushing attack with 128 yards on the ground off 13 attempts for three touchdowns and five total on the day. Jackson Diaz also saw time at quarterback with 113 yards off 11-18 with a touchdown pass as well.
Ryan Rosumny led all receiver off one catch for 81 yards and a score while Clark Baker had 54 yards off of three catches and a touchdown as well.
The defense had a shutout going through the first three quarter of the game before the Bearcats found some offense during the final quarter of the game. George Cutting led the defense in tackles with 10 total while Nicholas Kaufman and Thali Cobb each had five. Cutting Cobb and William Welch each came away with a sack as well in the win.
The Sagehens got on the board early and often but came out with a bang off of a deep ball from Noble to Rosumny for 81 yards to make it 7-0. Pomona-Pitzer doubled up their lead in the first quarter as Noble found Baker for 26 yards to extend the lead to 14-0 at the end of the first.
Noble continued to pound the Bearcats on the ground as he ran in three touchdowns in the second quarter from four, six and nine yards out to make it 34-0 heading into halftime.
Pomona-Pitzer continued their good offensive play as they put together another scoring drive in the third quarter and after eight plays for 49 yards, Jackson Diaz found Jack Susank for the one-yard touchdown pass to push the lead to 41-0.
Willamette got their first score of the game in the fourth quarter off a six-yard touchdown pass to make it 41-7 before Kyler Parris converted a field goal for the Sagehens after an 11-play drive to make it 44-7. The Bearcats had some success on offense late in the fourth quarter after they capped off an eight-play drive with a one-yard touchdown run and after an interception, hit a 72-yard touchdown pass to make it 44-21, but the Sagehens ultimately came away with a dominate performance in week one of their 2022 season.
