STANFORD, CA. -- The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team fell to Pepperdine 16-5 and fell to Loyola Marymount 19-6 in the the MPSF Tournament on Saturday morning at Belardi Pool.
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens drop to an even 5-5 on the year.
Pomona-Pitzer 5, Pepperdine 16
The Sagehens were led by Sam Sasaki who netted a brace with two goals in the loss. The Sagehens had three other goal scorers as Luca Bozzo, Benjamin Sasaki and Nico Perna all chipped in with one.
Pomona-Pitzer stayed with the Waves early on in the game and even held a 2-1 lead after Sam Sasaki opened the game with back-to-back goals. Pepperdine came back with three-straight goals in response, but Ben Sasaki cut the lead down to just one at 4-3 with a goal early in the second quarter.
Pepperdine started to pull away before halftime and took an 8-3 lead into the break. Pomona-Pitzer opened the second half with a goal from Perna to make it 8-4, but the Waves continued to widen the gap at 11-4 before Bozzo netted the last goal of the day for the Sagehens to make it 11-5 heading into the fourth.
The Sagehens failed to make up any more ground in the fourth quarter as they fell to No. 11 Pepperdine.
Pomona-Pitzer 6, Loyola Marymount 19
The Sagehens were led by Jack Ryan who had two goals in the loss for the Sagehens while Maxim Korestsky, Luca Bozzo, Alexander Peterson and Nico Perna had one.
Ryan led the Sagehens out of the gate with two-straight goals to open up a 2-1 lead over Loyola Marymount, but the Sagehens gave up six unanswered goals to end the first with LMU up 7-2.
Much like the first quarter, Peterson netted the first goal of the second, but LMU made another big run to end the first half up 11-3.
Korestsky found the back of the net in the third while goals from Perna and Bozzo in the fourth capped off the scoring for the Sagehens as they fell to LMU to end day two of the MPSF Tournament.
