STANFORD, CA. -- The Pomona-Pitzer Water Polo team opened up the MPSF Tournament with a 24-6 loss to Cal on Friday afternoon at Avery Stadium.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens drop to 5-4 overall on the year.
The Sagehens were led by Benjamin Sasaki who was the only Pomona-Pitzer player to have more than one goal in the loss while Luca Bozzo, Sam Sasaki, Nico Perna, and Andrew Plaschke all chipped in with one goal each.
The Sagehens got behind Cal early as the Bears shut out the Sagehen offense in the first quarter and mounted a 7-0 lead. Plaschke netted the first goal of the game for the Sagehens, and Sam Sasaki netted another just before halftime to make it 11-2 at the break.
Perna netted a 6 on 5 opportunity to give the Sagehens their second-consecutive goal of the game while Ben Sasaki scored his brace late in the third quarter to cut into the Cal lead at 17-5 entering the fourth quarter. Bozzo scored off of another 6 on 5 chance for the Sagehens as Pomona-Pitzer fell to the Division 1 powerhouse in game one of the MPSF Invitational.
