Box Score FOREST GROVE, OR. – The Pomona-Pitzer Football team suffered its first loss with a 23-20 loss in overtime against non-conference opponent Pacific on Saturday night at Hanson Stadium.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 2-1 overall.
The Sagehens were led by quarterback Skylar Noble who went 22-44 with 269 yards and a touchdown while also leading the rushing attack with 96 yards off of 23 carries. Quinten Wimmer led the receiving core with 72 yards off of six receptions while Ryan Rosumny added 66 yards to the air attack.
The defense played was led by Thomas McConnell who registered 10 total tackles while Nicholas DelBiaggio came away with three sacks and Nate Barewin, Thali Cobb and George Cutting all came away with one sack as well.
The two teams started off slow on offense in the first half with four punts to open up the game. Pacific got the first score of the game late in the first quarter with a field goal to take a 3-0 lead over the Sagehens.
Pomona-Pitzer responded with a field goal of their own as Cameron Shirangi nailed a 22-yarder to tie the game at 3-3. The Sagehens got the ball back late in the first half and put together a nice drive with seven plays going 62 yards capped off by a Dominick Norris one-yard touchdown run to take a 10-3 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Sagehens went on to take their largest lead of the game at 17-3 after Noble found Rosumny for a 38-yard touchdown pass, but the Sagehens got bit by the turnover bug in the second half with three interceptions that helped Pacific get back into the game.
The Boxers cut it down to a one-score game to end the third after a touchdown pass and after the Sagehens tried to take as much time off the clock as possible, the Boxers had a chance to tie it on their last drive of the fourth quarter. Pacific went 87 yards to tie the game late in the fourth and send the game into overtime.
The Sagehens got the ball to start the overtime period and were forced to settle for a field goal. The Boxers got the ball back and found an open man in the endzone to walk off the win at home and hand the Sagehens the 23-20 defeat.
