Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team fell to SCIAC opponent Occidental 1-0 to open their SCIAC season on Saturday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
Season Impact: with the loss, the Sagehens drop to 1-3 on the year and start out 0-1 in SCIAC play.
Another close contest on the scoresheet between the two teams with just one goal separating the two sides. Occidental outshot the Sagehens 12-9 while both teams registered give corners and the Sagehens committing just two more fouls 12-10.
The Sagehen defense stayed strong for the majority of the game after the Tigers had some good looks at goal including multiple balls off the post, but the teams stayed even at halftime 0-0
The game winner came for the Tigers in the 80th minute after a long cross into the box found the head of the Occidental forward and into the back of the net for the late lead. The Sagehens pushed hard on offense to try to find an equalizer, but all their late chances missed wide of the goal as Pomona-Pitzer suffered their first conference loss of the season.
