Box Score SANTA CRUZ, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team completed the comeback on the road as they defeated UC Santa Cruz 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Lower East Field.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens stay perfect in their start to 2022 and improve to 3-0 overall.
The Sagehens had two different goal scorers as Anjuli Turner scored the equalizer and Amanda Khu netted the game-winner.
The Sagehens dominated the stats sheet as they outshot Santa Cruz 28-9 had seven corners to the Banana Slug's one and had nine shots on target. Despite all that, the Sagehens found themselves in unfamiliar territory with a 1-0 deficit heading into halftime. UC Santa Cruz scored in the 38th minute after a floater was saved and a rebounded effort gave the Banana Slugs a 1-0 lead.
It took the Sagehens a little time to get their offense going, but Pomona-Pitzer found its equalizer in the 69th minute after a give and go from Eliana Prosnitz to Turner ended with the ball in the upper 90 to tie the match at 1-1.
Not content with the draw, the Sagehens relentlessly fought for the game-winning goal late in the second half. Pomona-Pitzer continued to press the offense with 17 shots in the second half alone. The breakthrough goal came late in the second half after Anjali Nuggehalli had her shot saved by Khu was there for the rebound and slotted it past the keeper to secure the win for the Sagehens in the 90th minute.
