Sagehens End Regular Season With 71-58 Win Over CMS

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team ended their regular season with a 71-58 victory over SCIAC rival CMS on Saturday night at Roberts Pavilion.

Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improve to 13-9 overall and 11-5.

The Sagehens were led by  Madison Quan who had a game-high 25 points in the win. Maison Yee came off the bench with 11 while Charlize Andaya had 9, Amara Chidom had 8 and Emily Church had 7.

The Sagehens held a slight advantage from the field with 39.3% to CMS's 38.2% and shot slightly better from beyond the arc at 47.4% to 44.4%. The Sagehens forced 14 turnovers and outrebounded CMS 36-33.

The Athenas got out to a hot start on offense with some good early three-point shooting. CMS took an 11-8 lead and stretched their lead to 22-17 at the end of the first quarter shooting 75% from the field.

CMS extended its lead to 28-22 with three minutes gone in the second quarter before the Sagehens sparked an 8-2 run to tie the game at 30-30 after a Kaitlyn Leung three with 3:33 left before halftime. The Sagehens closed out the half strong and after two made free-throws from Chidom, the Sagehens held a 38-34 lead heading into the locker room.

Pomona-Pitzer stayed ahead of CMS throughout the third quarter and built an eight-point lead at 50-42 with 5:49 left in the third. CMS came back to cut the lead down to two points at 50-48, but the Sagehens kept the Athenas away from the lead and held a 56-50 advantage heading into the fourth.

The Sagehens wasted no time putting the game away in the fourth as they started the quarter with a 5-0 run to take a 61-50 lead after a Yee three. The Sagehens extended the lead to 66-52 after a Quan layup and then the largest lead of the night at 14 points at 68-54 with 4:44 left to go. 

The Sagehen defense showed up in the fourth as they held CMS to just eight points when it mattered the most as the Sagehens ended the regular season with a Sixth Street Rivalry win over CMS.

Up Next: The Sagehens will await their final SCIAC seating but will guarantee a host game on Tuesday, February 22nd.
