Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team came away with a 77-65 win over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Occidental on Wednesday night at the Linde Activities Center (LAC).
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improve to 12-9 overall and 10-5 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by Madison Quan who led the team with 20 points and six rebounds. Allison Murphy had a career-high with 16 points off the bench while Maison Yee also provided the Sagehens with a spark off the bench with 15 points and seven rebounds.
Pomona-Pitzer had the offense working well in the second half as they outscored Occidental 46-37 in the third and fourth quarter. The Sagehens shot 46.3% from the field and 35% from three while outscoring Oxy in the paint 32-26 and forced the Tigers to turn the ball over 11 times while the Sagehens only committed five turnovers.
It took the Sagehens a bit to get the offense going as they trailed Occidental 8-5 with three minutes left in the first but ended the quarter with am 11-3 run to hold a 16-11 lead heading into the second.
The Tigers started to come back in the second half as they tied the Sagehens a 16-16 after a made three but the Sagehens kept a slight edge over the Tigers for the majority of the quarter. Occidental eventually went on to take the lead at 28-27 with 1:44 left before halftime but the Sagehens slid ahead with a layup by Yee to take a 31-28 lead at the break.
Occidental kept it close in the early stages of the second half, but the Sagehens took over in the third quarter and after a 13-2 run, led 51-36 with 2:13 to go after a Murphy jumper. The Sagehens continued to build their lead over Oxy as they outscored the Tigers 22-10 in the third to take a 53-38 lead heading into the fourth.
The tigers showed a little bit of life in the fourth as they won the quarter 27-24, but the Sagehens rode their big third quarter and held off the Tigers for their 12th win of the season.
