Box Score THOUSAND OAKS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Football team stayed perfect in SCIAC play after their 28-24 comeback win over Cal Lutheran on Saturday night at Rolland Stadium.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by Skylar Noble who led the Sagehens in the air and on the ground after he threw for 28-42 with 273 yards and two touchdowns. Noble also ran for 136 yards and two touchdowns as well.
The Wimmer family led the receiving core as Quinten Wimmer had 73 yards and a score while Sander Wimmer added 72 yards.
Nate Barewin led the defense with eight total tackles while the defense totaled four sacks after Graham Olson tallied two and Mark Carling and Ethan Norris each had one.
Both teams punted on their opening drives, but Cal Lutheran got the only points of the first quarter after the Sagehen defense stalled out an 11-play drive with a 35-yard field goal to put the Kingsmen up 3-0.
The Sagehens responded on their next drive and Noble found Jason Kennel for a five-yard strike to give the Sagehens their first lead of the night at 7-3 early in the second quarter. Pomona-Pitzer forced Cal Lutheran to punt and followed up with their second-straight touchdown drive of the second quarter after Noble ran in a nine-yard touchdown to put the Sagehens up 14-3 heading into halftime.
The Kingsmen defense forced the Sagehens to punt coming out of halftime and Cal Lutheran went 57 yards on three plays and after a touchdown pass, cut the lead down to 14-10. The Sagehens answered with a 21-yard touchdown strike to Wimmer, but Cal Lutheran got a big score off of a pick-six to cut the lead down to 21-17 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Sagehen offense started to stall out a bit in the fourth and the Kingsmen put together a long 13-play, 82-yard drive to reclaim the lead at 24-21 with 7:30 left to play. The defense pinned the Kingsmen deep in their own territory and forced the special teams unit into a tough punting situation on their one-yard line. The punt only went to the 30-yard line and set the Sagehens up with great field position looking to take the lead.
Noble marched the Sagehens into the endzone with a 20-yard scramble to take a 28-24 lead with just 1:43 remaining. Cal Lutheran had to go 80 yards in less than two minutes and the Sagehen defense wouldn't allow it as Pomona-Pitzer forced the Kingsmen to turn the ball over on downs to come away with the big road win.
