Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team earned a 1-0 win over SCIAC opponent Whittier on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improve to 10-2-3 overall and 7-1-3 in SCIAC play.
Before the game, the Sagehens celebrated their senior class who over the past four seasons earned three SCIAC Regular Season Titles, Two SCIAC Tournament Championships, and an NCAA Tournament appearance in the Final Four in 2019. Sagehen seniors Genevieve Gray, Hanna Kim, Hannah Mandell, Naomi Meurice, Maya Nitschke-Alonso, Shay Reifert, Charlotte Tapp, Emily Tomz, Taylor Venenciano, and Melia Waring were all recognized for their hard work and dedication to the program over their past four years.
Pomona-Pitzer followed up with a big bounce-back performance on Senior Day coming away with a win over the Poets after previously drawing with Whittier in their away contest. The Sagehens were led by Isla Burch who netted the only goal of the game in the win. Naomi Meurice and Taylor Kane combined for another shutout with Meurice picking up the win.
The sole scoring play of the game came in the 26th minute of the first half after the Sagehens earned a corner. The corner was played in Spencer Deutz and after found the feet of Burch who then played a lob to the far post over the keeper's head to drop in for the 1-0 lead.
The Sagehen defense preserved the 1-0 lead for the remaining 74 minutes as the Sagehens earned the win to stay at the top of the table in the SCIAC.
