Box Score THOUSAND OAKS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team dropped their first SCIAC regular season contest with a 2-0 loss at Cal Lutheran on Wednesday night at Rolland Stadium.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 9-2-3 overall and 6-1-3 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens went through their fifth shutout on offense this season after the Regals limited the Sagehens to get eight shots with only three on goal. Cal Lutheran did a good job of limiting the Sagehens' opportunities early on in the first half with one big chance after a save off of a Kelsey Shintaku shot on goal to take a 0-0 score into halftime.
Cal Lutheran packed the box again on defense for the majority of the second half and eventually played the counterattack to draw a penalty for the night's first goal in the 83rd minute.
After surrendering a late lead, the Sagehens pressed forward on offense and almost scored an equalizer after an Amanda Khu header off a corner chance shook the crossbar but didn't pass the goal-line to keep the deficit at 1-0.
Needing a goal to tie the game, the Sagehens opened themselves up for another counterattack opportunity for the Regals in the 90th minute as they won the one-on-one chance to double up their lead at 2-0 and handed the Sagehens their first loss inside SCIAC play this season.
Up Next: The Sagehens will next host Whittier on Saturday, October 22nd at 2:00 p.m.
