Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team completed their season sweep over SCIAC opponent Caltech with a 4-0 win on Saturday morning at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 9-1-3 overall and 6-0-3 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens had three different goal scorers in the win as Taylor Venenciano Ella Endo and Taylor Marshall all found the back of the net while Melanie Ng and Anjali Nuggehalli contributed with assists. Taylor Kane got the win in goal for the Sagehens as her, Naomi Meurice and Hadley Johnson combined for the team shutout.
The Sagehens dominated possession early on against the Beavers but had trouble breaking through for a goal in the first half. Caltech came away with some big saves early on and played a highline to force the Sagehens into multiple offsides to keep the score even at 0-0 heading into halftime.
Pomona-Pitzer finally broke through in the second half after Nuggehalli got space down the right side and played in a low cross to the feet on Venenciano for the tap in to take a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute.
The Caltech defense helped out a bit for the second goal after a cross played in bounced off the Beaver defender and into the net for an own goal to make it 2-0 Sagehens at the 67th minute mark.
Endo and Marshall both scored their first collegiate goals as Sagehens after Endo broke through the backline off a pass by Ng and beat the keeper the 1 v 1 in the 79th minute and Marshall put back a rebounded effort to cap off a big scoring night for the Sagehens with the 4-0 win at home.
