Box Score WHITTIER, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's soccer team drew with the Whittier Poets in a 0-0 90-minute battle on the road. The Sagehens outshot Whittier 19-14, putting 13 on frame to the Poets' nine on frame but neither team was able to find the back of the net by the end of regulation. With the tie, the Sagehens are now 8-1-3 overall and 5-0-3 in conference play. Pomona-Pitzer will return to the pitch on Oct. 15 when they host the Caltech Beavers at 11:00 a.m.
Neither team wasted time after the opening whistle as Poets took the first shot of the game in the 2nd minute before Eliana Prosnitz took the second shot in the 4th minute with her attempt going wide. Whittier put another shot on frame in the 9th minute, but Naomi Meurice was there to make the save. In the 11th minute, Charlotte Tapp put her first shot of the game on goal, but the Poets goalkeeper made the save, keeping things locked at 0-0 in a fast-paced opening portion of the match.
The two teams continued to attack over the next 25 minutes with the Sagehens earning a 7-4 edge in shots before the 37th minute. In that stretch, both teams managed to put three shots on goal but both goalkeepers played well between the pipes to keep the ball out, sending the teams into the halftime break tied 0-0.
Charlotte Tapp took the first shot of the second half, putting her strike on goal in the 47th minute. The Poets countered with a shot on goal to the top right corner in the 51st minute but Taylor Kane made the save for the Sagehens. The Poets earned a corner off the Kane save and sent their next shot wide as a Poet tried to head it in. Pomona-Pitzer responded with a trio of shots on goal from Kelsey Shintaku and Eliana Prosnitz but all three attempts were saved to keep things scoreless in the 56th minute.
The Sagehens saw shots on goal from Hannah Hong, Charlotte Tapp, and Kendrick Dahlin going into the 77th minute but none found the back of the net as the game intensified with neither time wanting to end in a draw. The Sagehens had a small breakaway opportunity in the 87th minute as Tapp got by her defender and put a well-struck ball just to the left of the post. Prosnitz followed with a shot on goal in the 89th minute but the Poets made the save. Whittier sent in a last second ball on frame, but Taylor Kane saved it as time expired, ending the game in a 0-0 draw.
