Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team came away with a 2-0 win over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Whittier on Wednesday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer field.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 5-5 overall and now improve to 5-3 overall.
The Sagehens were led by super subs Graeme Logan and Alex Bonville who each netted a goal in the win over the Poets while Jeffrey Tiglon ended the night with an assist. Ethan Bae got the win in goal after he stopped four balls for the shutout.
Pomona-Pitzer came into today's game needing a win to stay in the top half of the league standings. The defense came away with its third team shutout of the season and just the second in SCIAC play. The defense controlled the game all day for the Sagehens and came up big early on in the contest after Bae came away with a huge save in the early stages of the first half to keep the game even at 0-0.
The offense had a lot of chances to take the lead throughout the first half and eventually got their go-ahead goal in the 41st minute after a turnover in the midfield led to a beautiful cross off the foot of Tiglon to Logan who chested it down to his feet and played a volley past the keeper to give the Sagehens a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Pomona-Pitzer doubled its lead early in the second half after Bonville broke free down the left side and made a defender miss to set up an easy 1-on-1 with the Whittier keeper to put the Sagehens on top 2-0 in the 51st minute.
Whittier tried to get its offense going in the second half, but the defense kept the Poets away from Bae and any potential scoring opportunities to get themselves back into the game.
