Box Score

CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's soccer defeated the California Lutheran Regals 3-0 at home with goals from Hannah Mandell, Hannah Hong, and Charlotte Tapp. With the win, the Sagehens are now 7-1-1 overall and hold a 4-0-1 record in conference, giving them the top spot in the SCIAC. Pomona-Pitzer outshot the Regals 14-8 overall while earning a slight 3-2 edge in corner kicks. The Sagehens will travel to Chapman on Oct. 5 at 4:00 p.m. for their next match.

The match featured a battle in the midfield for the opening five minutes of the contest. The Sagehens were able to collect the ball and begin to pressure the Regals as Charlotte Tapp put the first shot of the game on frame, forcing the Regals goalkeeper to make a save in the 9th minute. The Sagehens continued to pressure, taking four more shots in under a 10-minute timespan, including a header shot from Kelsey Shintaku that was on frame but saved by the Regals goalie. Pomona-Pitzer's first goal of the game came in the 25th minute as Hannah Hong dribbled the ball down the sideline before sending in a perfectly paced ball across the box that found the feet of Hannah Mandell. Mandell was able to put a good strike on it and slot it past the keeper to give the Sagehens a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute.

The Regals quickly countered with a shot of their own a minute later but sent their first and only shot of the half wide of the goal. In the 40th minute, Hannah Hong was able to get a goal of her own after dishing out an assist on the first goal of the game, doubling the Sagehens lead to 2-0 heading into halftime.

The Regals came out of the halftime break on the attack, taking the first shot of the second half but sending this one high. The Sagehens countered with shots in the 55th and 57th minute before Amanda Khu found Charlotte Tapp in the 60th minute. Khu slotted the ball to Tapp who was on the right side and beat the keeper in a one-on-one situation to give the Sagehens a convincing 3-0 lead. Just 30 seconds after Tapp's goal, the Regals put a shot on frame, but Taylor Kane was there to make the save. Kane made another save in the 76th minute before the Sagehens put first year goalkeeper Hadley Johnson in to close out the remainder of the game. Johnson faced three shots in the closing six minutes of the contest and made all three saves to help the Sagehens secure the 3-0 shutout over Cal Lutheran.
