Box Score THOUSAND OAKS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team came away with a big road win as they defeated SCIAC opponent Cal Lutheran 1-0 on Saturday night at Rolland Stadium.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens have won back-to-back SCIAC road games to improve to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by Giri Mase who netted the only goal of the game for Pomona-Pitzer in the win. Ethan Bae got the win in goal with his first shutout of the season to go along with four saves.
Pomona-Pitzer was the aggressor in the first half as they looked to jump ahead early on the road in a big conference matchup. The Sagehens outshot the Kingsmen 8-1 in the first half and were able to get two corners as well but went into halftime tied at 0-0.
Cal Lutheran outshot the Sagehens in the second half and had three shots on target with five corners, but the Sagehen defense kept the Kingsmen off the scoresheet. The Sagehens went on to get their game-winning goal in the 81st minute after Kyle Lau got the ball around the box and hit a first time effort that forced the goalkeeper to parry the ball away into the path of Mase who then blasted a first time shot past the keeper to put the Sagehens up 1-0.
The Kingsmen tried to find an equalizer in the final 10 minutes to salvage a draw, but the Sagehen defense along with Bae were able to register a shutout on the road to hold off Cal Lutheran.
