The Sagehens and Leopards were nearly identical in rebounds, assists and turnovers, but the Sagehens held a big advantage in the paint with 26 to La Verne's 16.

La Verne gave Pomona-Pitzer a scare early on as they quickly jumped out to an 11-4 lead.  The Sagehens struggled scoring the ball early in the first quarter but started to get some momentum late in the first as they battled back to cut the deficit to 13-9 heading into the second quarter.

La Verne maintained their lead early in the second, but the Sagehens made a run and got within one point after a Quan and-one cut the deficit down to 18-17 with 7:35 left before halftime. La Verne then sparked an 11-2 run to take their largest lead of the first half at 29-19. The Sagehens outscored La Verne 24-22 in the second and made a run in the final five minutes of the half to cut the La Verne lead down to 35-33 heading into the break.

Pomona-Pitzer trailed La Verne for the majority of the third quarter but always kept within striking distance.  The Sagehens made their move with just over three minutes left in the third quarter after a Yee layup brought them within one point at 46-45.  Yee went on to give the Sagehens the lead on their next possession and Pomona-Pitzer maintained their lead over the Leopards 52-20 heading into the fourth.

La Verne stayed with the Sagehens in the early stages of the fourth quarter, but the Sagehen defense shut out La Verne for seven-straight minutes as they continued to grow their lead over the Leopards. The Sagehens outscored La Verne 12-2 in the final seven minutes of the fourth as the Sagehens completed their comeback win over the Leopards.

Up Next: The Sagehens will next travel to Redlands on Saturday, January 29th at 7:00 p.m.
