Chidom, Leung Lead Sagehens Past Beavers 82-69

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team notched their fourth-straight win with an 82-69 victory over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Caltech on Saturday night at the Linde Activities Center (LAC).

Season Impact: with the win, the Sagehens improve to 7-5 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

The Sagehens were led by Amara Chidom who came off the bench with 17 points and eight rebounds in the win. Kaitlyn Leung shared a game high with Chidom with 17 points as well while Madison Quan notched 15 points and Maison Yee chipped in with 12.

Pomona-Pitzer dominated the game in the paint with 50 points to Caltech's 28. The Sagehens also forced the Beavers to turn the ball over 21 times and had 19 points off of turnovers. The bench outscored Caltech 33-11 and the Sagehens shot well from beyond the arc as they connected on seven of their 22 attempts for 31.8% for the game.

The Beavers jumped out to a small lead early in the game, 6-4, before Pomona-Pitzer took over the lead at 6-7 after a Quan three-pointer. The Beavers came back and held a 14-13 lead with 3:35 to go, but the Sagehens closed out the first outscoring Caltech 6-3 to take a 20-16 lead heading into the second quarter.

Pomona-Pitzer began to build its lead over Caltech early in the second quarter as they quickly jumped out to 29-19 lead after Leung hit a three with 7:37 left before halftime. Caltech cut the lead down to five points at 32-27 but the Sagehens maintained their lead late in the first half and hit a three-pointer at the buzzer by Leung to take a 40-31 lead heading into halftime.

The Sagehens kept up their scoring ways in the second half to get their lead up to 15 points after a layup by Emily Church with 3:45 left in the quarter. Caltech started to chip away at the lead late in the third and got it down to 10 points at 60-50 to give themselves a fighting chance entering the fourth quarter.

The Sagehens had their best scoring quarter of the game in the fourth with 22 points and scored at least 20 points in all four quarter for the first time this season. Pomona-Pitzer quickly erased any thought of a comeback from the Beavers as they outscored Caltech 12-6 within the first six minutes of the fourth to take a 72-56 lead. The Sagehens then went on to take their largest lead of the game at 21 points after a Yee layup made it 80-59 and the Sagehens went on to cruise to a lobsided victory over Caltech at home.
