Box Score SANTA CRUZ, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer men's soccer team picked up a 2-1 road win against the Banana Slugs with goals from Jared Mejia and Matthew Carlson. UC Santa Cruz and Pomona-Pitzer ended the game tied 12-12 in shots but the Banana Slugs held the edge on shots on goal with five to the Sagehens four. Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action on Sept. 8 against Vanguard at 4:00 PM.
How It Happened
The Sagehens were on the attack early after Kyle Lau put a shot on goal just 2:25 into the game but it was a Jared Mejia penalty kick that got Pomona-Pitzer on the board 1:26 minutes later.
UC Santa Cruz was quick to answer with a goal of their own just 5:19 into the contest but that would end the scoring in the first half.
The Sagehens would get back on the attack early in the second half as Matthew Carlson found the net in the 51st minute to give Pomona-Pitzer the 2-1 lead. Kyle Lau fired one more shot on goal, but the Banana Slugs keeper was there to make the save. In the 89th minute, the Banana Slugs recorded their final shot of the contest but missed over the crossbar.
With the win, the Sagehens advance to 1-1 on the season.
