Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 3 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team took care of SCIAC foe Cal Lutheran 3-0 behind a brace from junior Charlotte Tapp and another goal from Hannah Mandell on Friday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
Another dominating performance from Pomona-Pitzer as they earned their second win of the season and their first team shutout. The defense was overwhelming in the win as the Sagehens only allowed one shot in the entire game and did not allow any shots on goal.
The Sagehens jumped all over the Regals early on with two goals within the first 10 minutes of the match. Tapp got the scoring going after first-year Isla Burch made a run down the right wing and played in a low cross for Tapp who was waiting just in front of goal to give the Sagehens a 1-0 lead.
Good defense turned to great offense as the Sagehens intercepted the goalkeepers ball out of goal and Mandell blasted a shot to the back of the net to put the Sagehens on top 2-0 at the nine-minute mark.
Pomona-Pitzer added one more goal from Tapp in the second half as she danced around the Regals' defense and slotted home her second goal of the afternoon to push the lead to 3-0 in the 54th minute.
The Sagehens had a few more chances to add to their lead in the second half but couldn't add any more goal to their tally as they cruised to a 3-0 win in their opening week of 2021.
