Sagehens Roll Past Willamette, 44-8

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer football team ended its non-conference football schedule in a big way with a 44-8 victory over Willamette on Saturday afternoon at Merritt Field.

With the win, the Sagehens improve to 2-2 overall.

Evan Flitz led the offense as he threw for 305 yards off of 29-44 with five touchdowns. Cole Barry led the receiving core as he went for over 100 yards at 110 with a touchdown and Win Hunter was just behind with 72 yards and two scores.

The Sagehen defense held its opponent to its lowest total on the season with just eight points and allowing one touchdown. Tate Tussing led the Sagehens with seven tackles while Graham Olson came away with two sacks, Mark Carling contributed with one as well and Garrett Pittman also tallied a sack and an interception in the win 

Pomona-Pitzer got out to an early lead after scoring touchdowns on its first two drives of the game. The Sagehens capped off a 13-play drive with a nine-yard touchdown pass from Flitz to Kendric Jameison and then ended a 10-play drive with a six-yard pass to Hunter to take a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Sagehens got its next points on the special teams after Thomas McConnel blocked a punt deep in Willamette territory that was batted out of bounds for a safety to extend the lead to 16-0.  The Sagehens ended the first half with one more score after Hunter and Flitz connected again for 30 yards this time to head into halftime up 23-0 

Pomona-Pitzer started the second half with an exclamation point after just three plays. Flitz found Barry on a 62-yard strike to push the lead to 30-0.

Willamette got on the board with their only touchdown of the day and a successful two-point conversion cut the deficit down to 30-8, but the Sagehens answered two more times before the end of the game as Quinten Wimmer caught a goaline touchdown and Jason Kennel caught a 14-yard pass from Jackson Diaz as the Sagehens ended their non-conference season in style with the 36-point win.
