BERKELEY, CA. – The No. 18 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team fell to No. 3 University of California 20-7 in game one of the MPSF Invitational at the Spieker Aquatics Center on Friday afternoon.
With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 6-4 overall with all four losses against ranked Division I opponents.
The Sagehens were led by Sam Sasaki and Adam Gross who each shared a team-high with two goals in the loss. Dylan Elliott, Keegan Coleman and Cole Kendrick also contributed with one goal apiece.
The Sagehens stuck with the Bears early on after Elliott answered the first goal of the game and then another goal by Sam Sasaki cut the deceit down to 3-2 with 4:30 left in the first quarter. Cal then began to make their run as they netted eight-straight goals before Sasaki netted his second of the game with 6:01 left in the third quarter to bring the score to 11-3 in favor of the Bears. Gross also found the back of the net in the third quarter but the Sagehens trailed by 12 heading into the fourth quarter.
Pomona-Pitzer got three goals on the Bears in the fourth as Coleman, Gross and Kendrick got on the board but Cal was too much for the Sagehens in game one of the MPSF Invitational.
The Sagehens will next take on Pepperdine on Saturday, September 25th at 9:20 a.m. at Legends Aquatic Center.
