Box Score LA VERNE, CA. – The No. 25 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) La Verne 4-0 on Wednesday night at Ortmayer Stadium.
With the win, the Sagehens improved to 5-0-1 on the year and 1-0-1 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens dominated from start to finish and got back to their scoring ways early on. Pomona-Pitzer outshot La Verne 18-3 with 7-1 shots on goal and the Sagehens earned six corners to the Leopards one.
Pomona-Pitzer had four different goal scorers as Hannah Mandell, Charlotte Tapp, Emily Tomz and Caitlyn Pham all scored in the win while Taylor Venenciano, Helena Robinowitz and Amanda Khu chipped in with assists.
The Sagehens wasted no time getting a goal against the Leopards as Venenciano played in Mandell, who then beat the keeper to give the Sagehens the early 1-0 lead in the third minute. Pomona-Pitzer doubled up on their goals in the 19th minute after just narrowly missing an opportunity with a low cross into the box, the Sagehens regrouped and Robinowitz sent in another ball into the box that found the feet of Tapp who drilled it over the keeper's head to extend the lead to 2-0.
The Sagehens netted one more just before halftime after Khu played in a low cross to Tomz who struck it first time and slotted past the keeper to push the Sagehens into halftime with a 3-0 lead
The offense slowed down for the Sagehens in the second half but the defense picked up right where they left off and kept the Leopards' attacking chances to a minimum. La Verne did get a shot on goal in the second half but it was saved by goalkeeper Taylor Kane.
The Sagehens did manage to get one more goal in before the end of the game as Caitlyn Pham lined up over a free kick and curled it over the wall and into the back of the net to cap off a big scoring night for the Sagehens as they defeated La Verne 4-0.
