Box Score CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer soccer team and the Occidental Tigers went a full 110 minutes in today's conference match up but neither team could find the back of the net as the final whistle blew, ending the game 0-0. The Sagehens held the advantage in shots with 18 to the Tigers 4. Pomona-Pitzer is now 4-0-1 on the season and will travel to La Verne on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 7:00 p.m.
How It Happened
The Sagehens took the first shot of the game 6:11 into the contest with an attempt from Hannah Mandell but the Tigers goalkeeper was there to make the save. The two teams traded shots over the following minutes, but the Tigers had a dangerous opportunity in the 19th minute. After taking the ball in the midfield, the Tigers sent a cross from the side of the field into the box. The ball was passed to an Occidental attacker, who took one touch before sending the ball on frame. The shot deflected off Genevieve Gray, redirected towards the inside corner of the goal. Naomi Meurice made a phenomenal read on the play and dove fully extended to keep the Tigers off the board.
Pomona-Pitzer controlled the run of play for the rest of the game, maintaining possession well on both ends of the field. In the second half, the Sagehens recorded 12 shots while holding Tigers to zero in the half, but none would find the cage.In the first overtime period, Pomona-Pitzer saw a shot go wide from Spencer Duetz which would be the only shot of the period. The second period saw a shot on goal from Ciannah Correa but the Tigers keeper made the save. Just over two minutes later, Evelyn Hasama sent the last shot of the game just wide of the cage, ending the game 0-0.
