Box Score CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens dropped the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs in a 6-0 blowout with Isla Burch leading the attack with two goals. Melanie Ng recorded one goal and one assist with Helena Robinowitz dishing out two assists. Overall, the Sagehens outshot the Banana Slugs 18-3, putting 14 on goal. With the win, Pomona-Pitzer moves to 4-0 on the season and will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 18 against the Occidental Tigers at 11:00 a.m. in their first conference match up.
Four In the First
The Sagehens maintained possession for much of the contest, creating numerous opportunities to score. Getting the scoring started was Taylor Venenciano who picked up a quick pass inside the box from Helena Robinowitz in the 10th minute to put the Sagehens up 1-0.
Later in the 27th minute, Eliana Prosnitz doubled the Sagehen lead after Robinowitz slotted her the ball at the top of the box. Prosnitz took one touch and tucked into the left corner, recording her first goal of the season.
Just three minutes later it was Anna Ponzio's turn. Ponzio took a shot that was saved by the keeper, but she maintained possession, dribbled around the keeper, and ripped a shot that tipped off a defender's head and went straight into the goal, giving the Sagehens the 3-0 advantage.
In the 42nd minute, Melanie Ng passed the ball to Isla Burch who got set up just outside the 18 and sent a well-struck curler straight into the upper 90, sending the fans into a frenzy as Pomona-Pitzer went up 4-0.
Burch's Brace
Coming out of the halftime break, the Sagehens tallied another goal just seven minutes into the half. This one came off the foot of Melanie Ng with a Kelsey Shintaku assist, making in 5-0 in the 53rd minute.
After her phenomenal goal in the first half, Isla Burch wanted just one more goal to end the day. Burch beat her defender down the near sideline and sent the ball just under the crossbar to record her second goal of the day and cap off the Sagehens 6-0 victory over UC Santa Cruz.
