Box Score WHITTIER, Ca. – The Sagehens saw goals from five different players on their way to a 6-1 victory over the Whittier Poets. Pomona-Pitzer outshot the Poets 25-5, putting 20 shots on frame.
First Half Attack
The Sagehens fired off four shots in the opening seven minutes of the game before Anna Ponzio was subbed in just under 17 minutes into the contest. Ponzio wasted no time, scoring 2:52 later off her first shot of the game, giving Pomona-Pitzer the 1-0 lead. Ponzio followed up her goal with two more shots but each one found the goalkeepers hands.
Later in the 23rd minute, Amanda Khu doubled the Sagehens lead off a corner kick from Emily Tomz. The Sagehens would pick up one more goal in the half with a strike from Maya Nitschke-Alonso in the 40th minute after a pass from Eliana Prosnitz, giving Pomona-Pitzer a 3-0 lead going into the halftime break.
Second Half Goals
Shortly after being subbed in, Helena Robinowitz slotted the ball to Hannah Mandell who found the cage in the 50th minute, making it 4-0 in favor of the Sagehens. Just five minutes later, Nitschke-Alonso picked up her second goal of the day, setting the score at 5-0 with 35 minutes left in the game.
The Poets got on the board in the 71st minute, making it 5-1 but Pomona-Pitzer would record the final goal of the day after Ayehu Clements crossed a ball to Kelsey Shintaku, who put it in the back of the net in the 85th minute, giving the Sagehens the 6-1 lead and eventual victory.

The Sagehens will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 3:00 p.m. when they take on the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs here in Claremont.
