CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 19 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team fell to No. 1 ranked UCLA 24-7 on Saturday afternoon at Axelrood Pool in the Inland Empire Classic.
Dylan Elliott led the way for the Sagehens with an impressive performance with a season-high five goals in the loss to the Bruins.
The Sagehens got in trouble early on against UCLA as the Bruins opened up with a 4-0 lead to start the first. After a Pomona-Pitzer timeout, Elliott and Adam Gross responded with back-to-back goals before UCLA ended the first with a goal to take a 5-2 lead.
The Bruins opened up the lead in the second as they outscored the Sagehens 7-2 but two goals from Elliott made the score 12-4 at the break. UCLA continued to extend its lead against the Sagehens in the second half but Elliott and Gross continued to score for Pomona-Pitzer but the Bruins opened up a sizeable lead at 21-7 heading into the fourth.
UCLA added three more to its total in the fourth as the Sagehens ended the Inland Empire Classic with two loses to top-ranked opponents.
