PASADENA, CA. – The No. 16 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team moved their SCIAC win streak to 12 games with their 20-9 win over SCIAC opponent Caltech on Wednesday night at Braun Pool.
With the win, the Sagehens improve to 20-8 overall and stay perfect at 12-0 in SCIAC play. The Sagehens were led by Matija Jancic who had a career-high four goals in the win. Kyle Green, Timothy Mangan, Luca Bozzo, Zachary Kaplan, Andrew Plaschke and Jack Ryan all netted two goals while Alexander Peterson, Patrick Hughes, Cole Kendrick and Kellen Grant each chipped in with one. William Byrne got the win in goal for Pomona-Pitzer with 12 saves and three steals.
The Sagehens' offense got out to a good start in the first as they outscored the Beavers 6-1 in the first. Green got the scoring going while the Beavers tied the game at 1-1, but that was the closest they got to a lead as the Sagehens ended the first with five unanswered goals from Jancic, Plaschke and Kaplan to take a commanding 6-1 lead after the first eight minutes of play.
Caltech scored two of the first three goals of the second quarter to cut the lead down to 7-3, but the Sagehens responded with back-to-back goals to end the half from Bozzo and Kendrick to hold a 9-3 lead at halftime.
The Beavers outscored the Sagehens in the third 5-4 with Jancic, Mangan, Kaplan and Bozzo all getting on the scoresheet in the third while Pomona-Pitzer still held a 13-8 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Sagehens turned up the offense in the fourth as Grant, Mangan, Green, Jancic, Ryan and Hughes all found the back of the net in the fourth as the Sagehens tacked on seven more goals for the double-digit win over the Beavers.
