CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball team fell to the Whitworth Pirates 81-61. Madison Quan and Maison Yee led the offense with 18 points and 15 points, respectively. Quan also picked up five steals on the night while Emily Church grabbed eight rebounds. 

How It Happened

Whitworth set the tone early, hitting a three-pointer just 12 seconds into the contest. The Sagehens countered with four points from Quan and two from Church to take a 6-5 lead. Whitworth answered with an 11-0 run to take a 16-6 lead before ending the first quarter with a 26-14 lead. 

The Pirates continued to hold onto their lead in the second quarter with Pomona-Pitzer closing the gap to as little as five points at 32-27 after a jump shot from Vanessa Hsia with 4:24 left in the half. Charlize Andaya recorded the Sagehens next two points, but Whitworth kept Pomona-Pitzer scoreless for the last 3:17 of the quarter, entering halftime with a 42-29 lead. 

The Pirates outscored the Sagehens 23-19 in the third quarter and 16-13 in the fourth quarter, successfully defending their lead in the second half of the contest to earn the 81-61 victory. 

Overall, the Sagehens shot 20.8% (5-24) from the three-point line and 35.9% (23-64) from the field. Maison Yee led the team with three three-pointers en route to her 15 points while Madison Quan led all scorers with 18 points with eight buckets from the field.
