The match featured physical play as Chapman held a 14-10 advantage in fouls while recording four yellow cards. The Sagehens earned a 15-11 edge in shots, but it was the Panthers who came out on top after two first half goals. Pomona-Pitzer will stay at home for their next contest as they take on Whittier on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 4:00 p.m. The last time the two teams squared off, the Sagehens earned a 6-1 victory.

How It Happened

Chapman put the pressure on early in the contest, recording three shots in the first nine minutes of the match. Pomona-Pitzer's first shot of the game wasn't until the 25th minute when Hannah Mandell had a small opportunity but sent it wide of the cage.

In the 35th minute, Chapman found themselves in a one-on-one situation against Pomona-Pitzer goalkeeper Naomi Meurice and capitalized on the opportunity, tucking the shot the left post to take a 1-0 lead. The Panthers scored another goal in the 43rd minute, this time taking a shot from 25 yards out and getting it just under the cross bar to take a 2-0 lead.

The Sagehens wasted no time putting on pressure in the second half as Charlotte Tapp drilled a shot off the crossbar 1:28 into the half. In the 48th minute, Ciannah Correa took a beautiful strike to the right post and cut the Chapman lead to 2-1.

The Sagehens would put six more shots on goal with their most dangerous opportunities coming late in the half with two free kicks right outside the box. Chapman was given a yellow card for their foul in the 79th minute and another in the 90th minute but the Sagehens were unable to cash in on the opportunities.
