LOS ANGELES, CA. – The No. 16 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Water Polo team continued its SCIAC winning streak with a 17-12 win over Occidental on Wednesday night at the Mandel Aquatic Center.
With the win, the Sagehens improve to 12-7 overall and 5-0 in conference play.
The Sagehens were led by Dylan Elliott who netted a game-high four goals in the win. Keegan Coleman also tallied a hat-trick with three goals in the win while Jack Mallery, Kyle Green, Ben Sasaki, each had two and Sam Sasaki, Noah Sasaki, Adam Gross and Jack Ryan chipped in with one.
Pomona-Pitzer wasted no time getting the scoring going as Elliott opened up the game with back-to-back goals and Coleman added his first to give the Sagehens a 3-0 lead. Oxy came back with two goals in a row to cut the lead to 3-2 but the Sagehens ended the period with goals from Ben Sasaki and Green to take a 5-2 lead heading into the second.
The Sagehens extended the lead to 8-3 at one point but the Tigers outscored the Sagehens in the second period and even cut the lead down to 9-7 as they only trailed the Sagehens by two at halftime.
Pomona-Pitzer got back on track in the third outscoring Occidental 4-1 in the period. The tigers opened the third with a goal and cut it down to 9-8 but the Sagehens responded with four unanswered goals from Coleman, Green, Elliott and Ryan to give themselves a little breathing room with a 13-8 lead going into the fourth.
Occidental and Pomona-Pitzer played an even fourth quarter as each team netted four goals and while the Tigers put forth a good effort at home, fourth period goals from Ryan, Gross, Ben Sasaki and Noah Sasaki secured the win for the Sagehens as they move to 5-0 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens will next host Cal Lutheran on Wednesday, October 13th at 4:00 p.m.
