Box Score LA VERNE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team ended their regular season with a 2-0 win on the road against SCIAC opponent La Verne on Saturday night.
With the win, the Sagehens end their season at 8-7-1 overall and 6-5-1 in SCIAC play ending in fifth place in the conference.
How It Happened
The Sagehens were led by Jared Mejia who scored the only credited goal for the Sagehens off of a penalty kick. Jonathan Rushton got the win in goal for the Sagehens as he notched a shutout with one save in the win.
The Sagehens got ahead early in this one as their offense created some good chances and got an early corner in the 4th minute of the match. Matthew Carlson sent a corner into the box that was flicked on by a La Verne defender and ended up in the back of the net as the Leopards' defense committed an own goal to give the Sagehens an early 1-0 lead.
The Sagehens doubled up their goals in the first half as Alex Bonville drew a penalty in the box in the 15th minute. Captain Mejia took the ball to the spot and converted the PK to give the Sagehens a 2-0 lead before halftime.
The Sagehen defense was solid all game long as they limited La Verne to just one shot on goal and just one corner in the entire game.
Pomona-Pitzer was able to hold off the Leopards and ended their season with a 2-0 win on the road.
