Box Score REDLANDS, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer volleyball team picked up their second-straight sweep and fifth-straight victory with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-11) win over the Redlands Bulldogs on the road. The Sagehens attack was led by Chloe Gill who earned 12 kills while Laurel Park chimed in for 10. Lauren Asato anchored the defense with 25 digs while Kylie Mies and Adrienne Tong ran the offense with 20 assists and 18 assists, respectively. Pomona-Pitzer will take on the Occidental Tigers at home on Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 7:00 p.m.
How It Happened
The Sagehens fell behind early in set one after a 3-0 run from the Bulldogs. Pomona-Pitzer worked their way to a tie at 10-10 with kills from Naomi Chen-Mallouk, Chloe Gill, and Laurel Park. The Bulldogs regained the lead at 17-12 but the Sagehens quickly rallied back to take a 20-19 advantage with service aces from Isabelle Alduino and Kellan Hayes highlighting the run. Pomona-Pitzer closed out the set on a 5-3 run, capping it off with a kill from Grace Fan to earn the 25-22 set one victory.
After Redlands earned the first two points of set two, the Sagehens went on a 6-2 run to take a 6-4 lead with kills from Chloe Gill, Laurel Park, and Paige Wilson. Pomona-Pitzer continued to hold an edge over the Bulldogs as they worked their way to a 14-10 lead to force a Redlands timeout. Out of the break, the Sagehens continued to hold off Redlands as they took a 17-14 lead. The Bulldogs went on a 5-2 run to tie the game at 19-19 but Pomona-Pitzer quickly countered with a 3-1 run to regain the lead at 22-20 to force a Redlands timeout. Out of the break, the Sagehens picked up a service ace from Kylie Mies before a Chloe Gill kill ended the set 25-20, giving Pomona-Pitzer the 2-0 lead over Redlands.
The Sagehens came out swinging in the third set, going on a blistering 15-5 run with kills from Chloe Gill, Laurel Park, Paige Wilson, and Chloe Kerstein. The Sagehens expanded their lead to 20-8, getting kills from Alexis Rudy and Chloe Kerstein along the way. The Bulldogs picked up three more points in the set, but Pomona-Pitzer stormed through to the end with kills from Kellan Hayes and Laurel Park along with a service ace from Kylie Mies to take a 25-11 set three win to earn the sweep over Redlands.
