Box Score LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team fell to SCIAC opponent Occidental 2-1 on the road on Saturday night at Jack Kemp Stadium.
With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 7-6-1 overall and 5-4-1 in conference play.
How it Happened
The Sagehens were led by Jorge Guillen-Lopez who netted the only goal of the night for the Sagehens in the loss.
A slow paced first half between the Tigers and Sagehens as neither team had many offensive opportunities in the first 45 minutes. The Sagehens only registered one shot attempt in the first half while Occidental failed to get any shots away as the two teams went into halftime tied at 0-0.
The Sagehens got their offense going early in the second half as they scored the first goal of the game in the 50th minute. Sean Donovan played a low cross into the box that Guillen-Lopez struck first time and beat the keeper low to give the Sagehens a 1-0 lead.
It took a while, but the Tigers came alive late in the game. After trailing for 24 minutes in the second half, the Tigers got their equalizer after a ball in the box was struck in traffic and beat the keeper to tie the game at 1-1 in the 75th minute.
The Tigers kept the momentum and scored just six minutes later to take the lead after a corner fell on the head of a Tiger player and into the back of the net as the Sagehens trailed 2-1 with under 10 minutes to play.
The Sagehens tried to find an equalizer to send the game to overtime but were given a red card in the 88th minute of the match that brought them down to 10 men. The Tigers were able to hold off the Sagehens late as Pomona-Pitzer suffered its fourth conference loss of the season.
