Box Score CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Pomona-Pitzer volleyball team defeated the Caltech Beavers 3-0 (25-21, 28-26, 25-22) to earn the sweep and extend their win streak to four games. The Sagehens recorded 39 kills on the night with Chloe Gill leading the team with 12. Lauren Asato led the team in digs with 20 while Isabelle Alduino picked up 14. Kylie Mies and Adrienne Tong both recorded double-digit assists with Mies earning 18 while Tong dished out 11. With the victory, Pomona-Pitzer is now 14-8 on the season and 10-2 in the conference. Their next contest will be at Redlands tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.
How It Happened
Pomona-Pitzer started set one on a 10-4 run that featured kills from Chloe Gill, Laurel Park, and Paige Wilson along with two services aces from Isabelle. From there, the Beavers battled back, going on a 10-3 run to take a 14-13 lead. The Sagehens countered with a quick 4-0 run to take a 17-14 lead before pushing to a 22-17 lead with another Alduino ace and kill from Laurel Park. The Bavers provided late pressure, earning four of the last seven points but a Paige Wilson kill gave the Sagehens the 25-21 set one victory.
Set two started nearly the same in the score line with the Sagehens earning a 11-4 advantage in the early moments but Caltech stormed back into the contest, pulling within two at 12-10 before tying the contest at 18-18. The two teams continued to trade blows before the Beavers took a slight 22-21 lead, forcing a Pomona-Pitzer timeout. Out of the break, Grace Fan earned a kill before Lauren Asato dished out a service ace, giving the Sagehens a 23-22 lead. The Beavers responded with a 3-1 run to take a 25-24 lead but the Sagehens worked out of it, going on a 4-1 run to win 28-26, again ending the set with a Paige Wilson kill.
Set three featured a much closer start with the Sagehens earning the edge with a 4-1 run before working to a 10-8 lead while attempting to hold off pressure from Caltech. The Beavers tied the contest at 10-10 but Pomona-Pitzer responded with a 5-1 run with a flurry of kills from Kellan Hayes and Chloe Gill to force a Caltech timeout with a 15-11 lead. The two teams each came out of the break swinging with the Sagehens taking a slight 7-6 edge in the run that brought them to a 22-17 lead. From there the Beavers went on a 3-0 run to force a Sagehen timeout at 22-20. Out of the break the Sagehens picked up blocks from Chloe Gill and Kellan Hayes before Gill put down the final kill of the night to earn the 25-22 set victory and the sweep over the Beavers.
