Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team fell in a close battle with Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Cal Lutheran 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens and Kingsmen played a tight match on the scoresheet as the Sagehens outshot their opponent 10-8 with 5-2 shots on goal and had six corners to Cal Lutheran's one.
Each team managed to get six shots off in the first half, but neither team could come up with a good enough scoring chance to take a first half lead.
The Sagehens tried to get the ball deep into the Cal Lutheran defensive third but the Kingsmen defense did a good job at limiting scoring opportunities for the Sagehens and forced them into some difficult decisions and tough shots.
The Kingsmen finally found the game-winning goal in the 80th minute after the Cal Lutheran attacking player pushed the ball down the right wing and beat the keeper high neat post to give Cal Lutheran the late lead.
The Sagehens played a very dangerous final few minutes as they searched for an equalizer, but the Kingsmen held off the Sagehen attack for the win.
