Tapp And Mandell Lead Sagehens To 2-0 Win At Chapman

Box Score

ORANGE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team got back at the Panthers with a 2-0 win on the road against SCIAC opponent Chapman on Saturday morning at Wilson Field.

With the win, the Sagehens improve to 10-1-2 overall and 6-1-2 in SCIAC play.

Charlotte Tapp and Hannah Mandell got back to their scoring ways as each of them found the back of the net in the win while Helena Robinowitz and Emily Tomz both assisted on the scoring plays.

After suffering their first loss of the year to the Panthers at home the week before, the Sagehens were ready to get back at Chapman at Wilson Field.  Pomona-Pitzer outshot Chapman 17-13 in the game and earned seven corners to Chapman's three. The Sagehens also but seven shots on frame while the Panthers only challenge the Sagehen keepers five times.

Pomona-Pitzer controlled the game in the early stages of the first half as the offense took some time to get a rhythm going. Chapman fired off more shots in the first half with six to the Sagehens' three but neither team could find a goal as they both went into halftime tied at 0-0.

After some halftime adjustments, the Sagehens turned on their offensive attack and immediately came away with some good scoring opportunities. The breakthrough happened in the 55th minute after a corner was cleared out of the box, Robinowitz lobbed a ball over the backline to a wide open Tapp who beat the keeper to give the Sagehens a 1-0 lead.

The Sagehens came back to double their lead just over ten minutes later after Tomz and Mandell connect on a give-and-go followed by a clinical through ball that broke Mandell through the backline and free on goal to bolster the Sagehen lead at 2-0 in the 68th minute.

After giving up the second goal, the Panthers failed to register another shot for the remainder of the game as the Sagehens wrapped up their Chapman series with a road win.

Up Next: The Sagehens will next take on SCIAC rival CMS at home on Wednesday, October 20th at 4:00 p.m.
