Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Basketball team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Redlands 78-56 on Saturday afternoon at Voelkel Gymnasium.
Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens move to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by sophomore Carly Leong who tallied 20 points and five rebounds in the loss. Sophomore Madison Quan chipped in with 11 points while sophomore Renae Tamura had seven and sophomore Amara Chidom with six.
The Sagehens had a tough night shooting the basketball against the Bulldogs with just a 39.3% mark from the field and 31.3% from three. Redlands outrebounded Pomona-Pitzer 51-26 and outscored the Sagehens in the paint 42-20.
Redlands got out to an early lead and kept it throughout the entire game as the Sagehens never tied or held a lead. The Bulldogs scored 19 points in the first quarter and held the Sagehens to just 10 points and converted on just four of their 13 shots.
The Bulldogs got out to a 12-4 lead in the early stages of the first quarter after Redlands hit a three with 5:23 left to go in the first. Redlands pushed the lead to 10 points at 21-11 just one minute into the second quarter and extended that lead to 17 at halftime with a 40-23 lead heading into the locker room.
The Sagehens came out and played much better in the third quarter as they tallied 18 points but still got outscored by Redlands in the third 21-18. The Sagehens were only outscored 38-33 in the second half but the big first half lead by Redlands was more than enough to carry them through the second half with a 78-56 win.
