CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Volleyball Team fell to the Chapman University Panthers on Tuesday night, losing 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 17-25, 18-25). Vicky-Marie Addo-Ashong and Isabel Kelly co-led the team with 14 kills each while Lauren Asato collected 27 digs. Addo-Ashong also led the team in blocks with one solo block and three block assists.

Season Impact: The Sagehens are now 6-7 overall and 0-3 in the SCIAC.

Pomona-Pitzer did not get off to an ideal start, trailing 6-2 in the first set. However, the Sagehens took advantage of slew of errors by the Panthers and came back with six straight points to lead 8-6. Jackie Roland scored two service aces during that run. The two teams traded points, but the Panthers went on a run to lead 15-11. Naomi Chen-Mallouk tried to keep it close, scoring a kill to cut the lead 23-21, but the Panthers scored two straight to seal the set.

The Sagehens responded well in the second set, showing their resilience to stay in the game. Trailing 15-11, the Sagehens broke out with a 7-0 run, during which Izzy Deatherage scored three kills, to lead 18-15. They went on another six-point run, during which Addo-Ashong scored two kills and a block to lead 23-16. An error by the Panthers and a combined block from Adrienne Tong and Addo-Ashong gave Pomona-Pitzer the set 25-17.

Chapman battled back, taking the lead after the third set 25-17. The Panthers and Sagehens battled closely in the start of the fourth set, but a 5-0 run by Chapman while being ahead 12-11 proved to be the difference as the visiting side never relinquished the lead as they closed out the fourth set 25-18.
