Box Score

NEWBERG, OR. -- The Pomona-Pitzer Football team fell to non-conference opponent George Fox 26-15 on Saturday night at Stoffer Family Stadium.

Season Impact: With the loss, the Sagehens suffer their first loss of the season and fall to 2-1 overall.

The Sagehens were led by senior Karter Odermann who threw for 337 yards going 38-67 with two touchdowns on the night. Odermann also led the rushing attack as he rushed for 54 yards on 18 carries while junior Win Hunter led the receiving core with 79 yards off of 10 receptions. Senior Jack Storrs led the defense with 10 total tackles while the Sagehens came up with one fumble by sophomore Vaishnav Siddapureddy and one sack by senior Josh Portnoy

The Sagehens started out strong as they forced a three-and-out on the Bruins' opening drive and were knocking at the goal line after taking the ball 47 yards on their opening drive of the game. The Sagehens threw an interception on second and goal and the Bruins returned it all the way back to the Pomona-Pitzer 17-yard line.

The Sagehen defense came up big as they forced a turnover on downs but got the ball back deep in their own territory. The Bruins got the first points of the game after the Sagehens fumbled a punt in the endzone that resulted in a safety to give George Fox a 2-0 lead.

The Bruins added three more points to their total off of a field goal to extend the lead to 5-0 and after a Sagehen punt, the Bruins went 76 yards in four plays and punched in a 23-yard run to extend the lead to 12-0 with just under four minutes to play in the first half.

The Sagehens responded with a touchdown of their own as they went 83 yards in 11 plays capped off by a one-yard touchdown from Odermann to junior Nick Jung to cut the lead down to 12-7 at halftime.

The Bruins took advantage of a few Sagehen mistakes in the second half as they scored a defensive touchdown and a special teams touchdown to help build a substantial lead over Pomona-Pitzer. After five-straight punts to open the second half, George Fox took back a punt 87 yards for the first score of the second half to push their lead to 19-7.

After the Sagehens turned the ball over on downs, the defense forced a punt to give the ball back to the offense. The Bruins were able to come away with an interception on the next possession and took it back 27 yards to extend the lead to 26-7.

After being down in the second half, the Sagehens answered with an 82 yard drive capped off by a nine-yard pass from Odermann to sophomore Clark Baker and after a successful two-point conversation, the Sagehens trailed 26-15.

The Sagehens then got the ball back on a successful on-side kick, but the Bruins' defense stayed strong in the fourth quarter after forcing the Sagehens to turn the ball over on a fumble and an interception to hand Pomona-Pitzer their first loss of the 2019 season.

Up Next: The Sagehens will next travel to Redlands on Saturday, October 5th at 7:00 p.m.
