Box Score

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Volleyball Team celebrated Senior Day on Friday night, taking time before the game to honor their graduating seniors. Seniors Vicky-Marie Addo-Ashong, Isabel Kelly, Izzy Deatherage, Brooke Carlson, Zaza Apolinario-Chaplin, Jackie Roland, and team manager Yesim Yurteri were honored for their hard work and contributions to the program, striving for excellence on the court and in the classroom. The Sagehens battled Whittier College in their final home match of the regular season and fell 3-0 (19-25, 20-25, 20-25). Addo-Ashong led the team with nine kills with a solo block and block assist while Lauren Asato collected 23 digs.

Season Impact: The Sagehens are now 12-13 overall and 6-9 in the SCIAC.

The two sides battled closely in the opening set as the Poets took a 7-6 lead. Addo-Ashong scored back-to-back kills to give the Sagehens an 8-7 lead, but the Poets quickly tied it back. With the score tied at nine, the Poets scored three straight to take a 12-9 lead and never fell behind. After another 3-0 run gave the Poets a 16-11 lead, the Sagehens couldn't find momentum as Whittier held on to win the first set.

The Poets jumped to a 14-9 lead in the second set, but the Sagehens answered back with a 3-0 run, including a kill by Naomi Chen-Mallouk and a block by Kelly. Another 3-0 run, including two kills by Addo-Ashong cut the deficit 18-17. The two sides traded points, but the Poets pulled away while lead 21-20 by scoring four straight to take the set.

The third set was close, as neither side were able to pull a significant lead for majority of the set. Ahead 12-11, the Poets managed to grind through a 5-2 run to build a 17-13 lead. However, a Poets error and a kill by Addo-Ashong cut the Poets' lead 18-16. Whittier College rallied again to extend their lead 22-17, but the Sagehens battled back thanks to two errors by the Poets and a kill by Gaby Harrison to cut the lead 22-20. The Poets closed the set with three straight points to finish the sweep.

Up Next: The Sagehens will play their final game of the regular season tomorrow night as they travel to Orange, CA to face Chapman University at 4:00 p.m.
