Box Score WHITTIER, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Football team continued their conference winning streak with a 27-12 win over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Whittier College on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens earned their third-straight win and improve to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens were led by senior Karter Odermann who threw for 188 yards on 15-27 throwing with one touchdown. Sophomore Dominick Norris led the rushing attack for the Sagehens with 93 yards off of 17 carries while Odermann tacked on 70 yards and two touchdowns. Junior Win Hunter led the receivers with 70 yards but sophomore Nathan Miles chipped in with 67 yards and a score in the win.
A slow start to the game between two very good offenses saw punts on each of the two teams opening drive before the Sagehens struck first with a 14-play drive capped off by a one-yard punch in from the goal line by Odermann to take a 7-0 lead.
The Poets responded on their next possession with an 18-yard touchdown pass but had the extra point blocked as the Sagehens still held a 7-6 lead. Pomona-Pitzer scored on consecutive possessions but after their drive stalled, senior Winston Li nailed a 30-yard field goal to extend the lead to10-6.
The Sagehens got another chance to score just before half as a poor punt landed them in prime field position late in the first half. Pomona-Pitzer got the ball down to the goal line and Odermann ran in his second one-yard touchdown of the half as time expired the give the Sagehens a 17-6 lead heading into the locker room.
Pomona-Pitzer didn't need much in the second half but was able to score first after a 13-play, 67-yard drive ended with a nine-yard strike from Odermann to Miles to push the lead to the largest of the day at 24-6 with 10:30 left in the third.
It was all Sagehen defense after that as Pomona-Pitzer limited the Poets to just 160 yards passing and under 100 yards rushing for the game. Whittier was able to score their second touchdown of the day late in the fourth quarter but the Sagehens were able to control the clock and cruised comfortably to victory.
