Box Score CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Women's Volleyball Team dropped a road contest to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in their SCIAC matchup on Friday night, falling 3-0 (21-25, 12-25, 18-25). Isabel Kelly led the team with seven kills while Grace Fan had four kills with one solo block and one block assist. Vicky-Marie Addo-Ashong also had four kills to go with two block assists and one solo block while Gaby Harrison and Chloe Kerstein combined for five service aces.
Season Impact: The Sagehens are now 11-11 overall and 5-7 in the SCIAC.
Pomona-Pitzer opened the first set fairly close with CMS, leading 5-3 after an attack error by the Athenas. CMS battled back with a 6-0 run to lead 18-10, but the Sagehens looked to fight back. Trailing 21-12, Kelly sparked a huge 9-1 run with a kill. During the run, Gaby Harrison scored two service aces while Fan recorded a kill and block. Kelly capped the rally with a kill to cut the lead 22-21. However, CMS regained composure and scored three straight to take the set.
CMS jumped to an early 5-0 lead and never lost their momentum. Trailing 15-7, the Sagehens scored three straight points to cut into the deficit thanks to two errors by the Athenas and a combined block from Harrison and Addo-Ashong. The Athenas ended the set while lead 19-12 with six straight points.
The third set started off fairly close with both teams trading points to open the set. Tied at 7-7, the Athenas rallied with eight straight points to lead 15-7. The Sagehens tried to battle back, but CMS maintained their comfortable lead and held on to win the final set.
Up Next: The Sagehens will return home tomorrow to host University of La Verne at 4:00 p.m.
